Fashion bloggers around the world are sharing their style tips on the web. Emma van Beurden visits some of the best sites.

So you think you are a stylish guy or girl? Do you have heaps of people commenting on how great you look or what an amazing variety of clothes you have? Or do you pride yourself on being a unique dresser who nobody else understands?

It's not just fashion magazines that now determine hip new trends. The internet is also gaining importance and popularity amongst fashionable young people in cities across the world.

Where networking sites like MySpace started off the trend of sharing your identity and interests with the world, fashion blogging has taken this to a new level. Through fashion blogs you can share your style and identity with the world - and bloggers can even tell you what they think of your look.

In the past, websites dedicated to fashion trends were created by magazines and fashion editors. Average internet users were not able to tell the models to add a belt to their outfit or have any say about upcoming trends. With everyday people appearing on the net as fashion models in their own right, dictating fashion trends is becoming a more communal affair as opposed to elitist.

At www.mystylediary.com you can look at different styles from a variety of people all around the world. You can also create your own style diary and tell everyone your fashion tips. Others can also go on and post comments about your look and offer ways to improve what you wear. If you are photo shy and just want to check out other people's style, you can surf around to see what others are wearing. If you like something you see, post a comment to let them know.

Similar to this site is www.shareyourlook.com, which was co-founded by American fashion writer Melissa Ceria and plays host to a large number of members from around the world. You register with the site and, as with Mystylediary, you can check out what other people are wearing and post comments.

Style spotting has become a new phenomenon in fashion blogs across the globe. These sites offer a large array of photos of hip people and brief descriptions of what they are wearing. One of the best fashion blogs is The Sartorialist. It was founded by New Yorker Scott Schuman, who, after working in the fashion industry for years, realised the people on the streets of New York offered more flair and excitement. He set out to take photos of these trendy beings and The Sartorialist (www.thesartorialist.blogspot.com) was born. This is a great place to look at trendy New York people. Unlike many of the other style blogs out there, The Sartorialist has photos of people from both sexes and all ages. The key to featuring on this site is being unique and stylish.

At www.thecobrasnake.com, Mark Hunter, a Los Angeles social photographer, has made a career for himself taking pictures of the hippest parties, gigs and shows in LA, New York and other cities.

This site has hundreds of photos of young people sporting hip new trends, partying and having fun. A similar local site, www.neonsleep.com, offers a glimpse at what trendy young people in Auckland and Wellington are wearing around town and which social events they are attending.

The British also have their fair share of fashion blogs. At www.hoyfashion.co.uk style-conscious people can check out what is happening with UK trends. Managed by photographers Samantha Toro Paz and Sophie Christian, Hoy Fashion mainly features teenagers from Liverpool and Manchester who they believe have a unique sense of style. In their words, "We have all been there; you see someone with a great bag but feel awkward asking where it is from. Well that's what we do best." This site is a great way to snoop around and get inspiration for your next shopping spree.

Savvy London, at www.savvylondon.blogspot.com, looks at the more outrageous fashions that people are wearing on the streets of London, such as silver shoes, orange leather jackets and velvet jodhpurs. This site has an impressive selection of archives, so you can check out London trends from all seasons. It also boasts a huge variety of links to other great fashion blogs across the globe.

A similar site is the aptly named Prada and Meatballs. At www.pradandmeatballs.blogspot.com you can study fashions from London and Milan and see what unique fashionistas are wearing as their signature style. This site also has lots of links to other fashion blogs, magazines and fashion icons.
