Here's how to get your own Bebo page.

Are you on Bebo? Maybe you've heard about Bebo but don't know exactly what it is, where it is and what you can do with it.
You must wonder, why use Bebo instead of other sites that are similar, such as MySpace? Bebo is designed for pre-teens and teenagers to be a safe and fun way to communicate with their friends. The main incentive to join Bebo is to catch up with and chat to friends you may not be able to see everyday. Here are a few tips to get you started.

 

First, go to www.bebo.com. To sign up, click the link that says 'Register'. This is where you fill in all your details to become a member. Once you have signed up you can make your page unique. You may want to choose a background; you can do this by clicking 'change skins' underneath where your profile picture will go. You can then choose from a selection of different backgrounds. If you want to have a profile photo or any photos on your page, you need to upload them. You do this by clicking 'photos' at the top of your page and you will then be able to download the photos you have on your computer. This is a great way for people to see you and your friends and what you have been up to.

 

To invite people to become your Bebo friend, click to add them as your friend on their homepage. They can also request to become your friend. Do not accept anyone you don't know as it could be dangerous. It's just like we were told when we were young: 'never talk to strangers'. If you want to get in contact with your friends you can go to their page and click 'post a comment'. There, you will be given the option to have your comment viewed publicly by anyone, or privately read by the person you are sending it to. If someone sends a comment to your page, only you are able to reply or delete it.

 

The safest way to use Bebo is to not accept anyone as friends if you don't know them. If you do, however, by accident, you can go into your friends list and delete them. It's also great to view different people's pages to have a look at what they have done and get ideas. If you see something on their page you would like to have on yours such as a slideshow of photos, or music/video clips, you can copy them onto your page. For music/video clips click 'copy', or for the slideshows click 'create your own'.

 

To stay safe on Bebo make sure you don't put your email or home address on your page, just state the area you live in. Don't give out your phone numbers or any other personal details about yourself or your family that you wouldn't want people to read or know about. The main thing about this is to just have fun.

 

If your parents aren't sure if they want you going on to Bebo because they don't think it's safe, let them read this article and invite them to have a good look at Bebo with you. That way, they'll understand and feel comfortable about any risks they may think there are. Good luck and enjoy!
